Blogger FAQ

Frequently Asked Question, by the blogger

Q: How much can I earn from accepting blog product placements?

A: Depending upon the popularity and appropriateness of your blog you can expect to earn between $5 and $20 for each post you make. The higher figures obviously are more likely to be acceptable to advertisers if your blog has high readership as well as a good position within the blogosphere, e.g. with plenty of links in and out of your blog to other popular blogs.

Q: Do I have to hide the fact that I’m being paid?

A: Some advertisers prefer this, they want the blog to seem more spontaneous, but not all require it.

Q: Isn’t this unethical or against the ethos of blogging?

A: If your blog is dedicated to anti-commercialism then perhaps, but otherwise that would be a personal decision for you to make.

Q: How will I get paid?

A: That’s ultimately up to you, but typically receiving payment via paypal is an appropriate way to do it.  The only exception is if the topic of the blog or product is in violation of the paypal terms of service, in which case epassporte may be a better choice.

Q: So I just have to put links in my blogroll or sidebar?

A: No, that is not what BlogProductPlacement.com is about. With Product Placement the product needs to appear in the content — just as with TV Product Placement a character might take a swig out of a name-brand beer bottle, so in Blog Product Placement you would need to write an actual blog post that discusses, and links to, the product under discussion.

Q: Oh, so I have to promote this product — I’m not a marketer!

A: And you don’t have to be, in fact if you did that would probably ruin the point. As a blogger you are expected to give your actual opinion, both for the promoters benefit as well as your readers. These are not “ads” in the usual sense, but they are leveraging your readership to get visibility for the product through expressing your opinion.
